As of the new year, the municipal and regional reform will come into force. This has practical implications for land registration of real estate.
Registration of documents relating to real estate
In the run-up to the end of the year, a municipal and regional reform will be implemented in Norway, and in connection with this, the land registry and land register will be closed for updates during the following periods;
Land registry: Closed during the period 13 December 2019 at 18:00 until the end of 1 January 2020.
Basic book: Closed during the period 27 December 2019 at 20:00 until the end of 1 January 2020.
As a result, the Norwegian Mapping Authority recommends that the municipalities submit documents that are to be entered in the cadastre or registered by 29 November 2019. It is not explicitly stated that this also applies to private individuals, but we recommend that this deadline is also applied here. This means that documents submitted for registration after this deadline cannot be guaranteed to be registered before the new year. This will, among other things, have practical consequences for the implementation of property settlements.
As a result of the municipal and regional reform, there may be changes in municipality names, addresses and cadastral units from 1 January 2020. The Norwegian Mapping Authority has stated that they will accept both old and new cadastral units for registration in the land register until 30 March 2020. Documents for land registration produced before 1 January 2020, where the old cadastral unit is used, can be registered until 30 March 2020.
