Procedure and dispute resolution
Norwegian courts handle between 50,000 and 100,000 civil disputes a year. A myriad of legal disputes can arise between (i) private individuals, (ii) private individuals and businesses/public authorities, (iii) between businesses, and (iv) between businesses and public authorities. There are different procedures for resolving these. For example, disputes can be resolved through out-of-court negotiations, court proceedings, court mediation, out-of-court mediation, conflict counselling, arbitration, etc.
Halvorsen & Co handles all types of civil disputes. For example, disputes relating to labour law, family law, inheritance, property, construction law, tort law, personal injury, company law and contracts. Our lawyers have broad and extensive experience in assisting clients in both private law and business law disputes with a high success rate.
Although the majority of all disputes are settled, some cases must be decided by the court. Our lawyers will work actively to achieve the desired result. A prerequisite for conducting an effective dispute process with a successful outcome is that the client provides the lawyer with all information. Without such information, it is difficult to assess the litigation risk and plan a strategy for how the dispute should be resolved.

Lawyer Monica Melgård is a permanent defence lawyer at Romerike and Glåmdal District Court. The role of a defence lawyer is to protect the rights of victims and survivors in criminal cases. This applies at the investigation stage, during questioning and in court proceedings.
Where applicable, the counsellor will file claims for compensation on your behalf, both in legal proceedings and with the Office for Victim Compensation. The counsellor will provide victims and survivors with information and act as a link to other support services so that every client is looked after according to their needs.
In the event of a trial, it is the defence lawyer who asks questions to the defendant, witnesses and experts on behalf of the victim or survivors.
