Road traffic injuries after a descent
A young man was injured in a road traffic accident after going downhill. The injured party suffered serious injuries in the form of a spinal fracture with subsequent paraplegia. He became a wheelchair user, disabled and dependent on extensive assistance from the public sector, family and friends. The injured party would most likely have had a career as a seaman, and a claim was made for compensation for loss of income. In addition, the company was required to pay compensation for loss of earnings, additional expenses for medical purposes, nursing and care, and other assistance needs. The insurance company's original claim was for approx. 5.5 million. After extensive negotiations and the threat of legal proceedings, the case was settled with a total payout of NOK 10 million. 10 million.
