What is a defence lawyer in criminal cases?

A legal aid lawyer will assist victims and survivors in safeguarding their interests in connection with the criminal proceedings against the injured party or perpetrator.

A victim in the sense of the law is someone who has been subjected to abuse, for example a person who has been raped or injured in traffic by a grossly negligent driver.
