What is an etch injury?

An etching injury occurs when corrosive substances such as lye, acid or solvents come into contact with the skin, eyes, throat or respiratory tract.

Where is it common for etching damage to occur?

Etching damage is a personal injury most commonly suffered during work, and it will then be an occupational injury or occupational disease. Eating injuries can also occur during leisure time, and will then be a leisure accident.

What are the symptoms of etching damage?

Most etching injuries are immediately symptomatic and can cause redness and blisters on the skin or sores on the eye.

Am I entitled to compensation for etch damage?

Answer. You may be entitled to compensation for etching damage:

• If the injury occurred at work for your employer at the workplace and is the result of an accident, you are probably entitled to compensation for occupational injury.
• If the injury occurred due to violence, you may be entitled to compensation from the perpetrator, their liability insurance or from Office for Victim Compensation.
• If the injury occurred during leisure time, you may be entitled to compensation for leisure accident under accident insurance or travel accident insurance if you had such insurance.
• If the injury occurred during medical treatment, you may be entitled to compensation from Norwegian Patient Injury Compensation.

What types of compensation am I entitled to for etching damage?

Is there a disability table for etching injuries?

Yes. Is an etching injury recognised as an occupational injury by NAV?

Answer. If the injury is due to an accident while working for an employer at the workplace, you can apply for NAV for recognition of an etching injury as an occupational injury. If you receive a decision from NAV that you have an «recognised occupational injury» you will automatically receive benefits in the NAV system.

Among other things, you can avoid paying a deductible for treatment by a doctor or physiotherapist by presenting the decision on «approved occupational injury».

As a general rule, you can also be reimbursed for expenses for medicines and special medical equipment. You may also be entitled to compensation from NAV.

How much can I receive in compensation after etching damage?
