Is a non-compete clause legal?

Basically, non-competition clauses are fully legal, and they are also used quite often. Especially if you have a senior position.

However, there are certain rules that must be followed, and among other things, it cannot be disproportionately restrictive. So whether your non-competition clauses are legal or not depends a little on what the clause actually says. But the short answer is yes, they can be legal.
